The Footlight Players Theatre, Inc. invites applications for a part-time position (approximately 20 hours/week) for the ongoing 86th season (2017-2018).
The Footlight Players Theatre seeks an Assistant Technical Director (ATD)/Master Carpenter (MC) to provide support and technical leadership in connection with 6 to 7 mainstage shows per season. The ATD/MC will work with the Production Manager (PM)/Technical Director (TD)/Artistic Director (AD)/Executive Director (ED) to negotiate the scope of scenery for productions; help recruit and lead volunteers with the construction of scenic elements for productions based on working drawings and/or scenic models; assist the lighting and/or sound designers as needed; help stay on budget; maintain build schedules; create strike plans for production closings; help maintain shop infrastructure, inventory, and equipment; enforce and maintain standard health and safety practices; attend production meetings, as well as rehearsals as needed; and perform other duties as assigned by the TD.
Minimum qualifications include a BFA or equivalent in an area related to the position or 5 years professional experience in scenery construction techniques, proficiency in use of stationary and hand power, woodworking tools; theatrical rigging, automation, and/or drafting; advanced computer skills in AutoCAD (preferred) or equivalent; proven ability in personnel management and budgeting; excellent work ethic including time management, work flow management, self-motivation, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to collaborate and work as part of a team; flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings as necessary. Desirable qualifications include advanced knowledge of theatrical rigging techniques.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This part-time position has the potential to become a full-time position.
The Footlight Players, Inc. is a 232 seat non-profit community theatre company founded in 1931. The company produces 6 or 7 mainstage shows per season, in addition to a Piccolo Spoleto production during the yearly festival or a possible summer production. The Footlight Players, Inc. may play host to several rentals during the course of a year. The TD or ATD may be required to act as House Steward during such events. Separate compensation will be paid for festival/rental events.
